Who We Are
The Cardinals program strives to provide an opportunity to cheer
and play
football in an organized, safe environment, with an emphasis on fun and
participation for all team members. The program encourages academic
excellence and endeavors to develop self-discipline, personal fitness,
teamwork, concentration, leadership, and good sportsmanship.
Each year, many Cardinals receive program-wide and league-wide
recognition of academic achievement.
Tradition
The Cardinals' proud tradition dates back to 1973. Both the cheerleading
and football teams have won many honors and championships at the state,
regional, and national levels. In 2006, cheerleading teams were awarded
2nd and 3rd place at the state competition and went on to the New England
Regional Competition at the Verizon Center in Manchester. The Pee Wee
football team was the NH Division 1 Champion and made it to the finals
of the New England playoffs. In only its second season, the Junior High
Cardinals Varsity football team advanced to the NJHFL Championship game
and the JV team took 1st place in the Granite State Football League Tournament.
Cardinals spirit teams placed in the 2004 & 2005 state and regional
competitions, with one team advancing all the way to the Nationals.
All football teams made the playoffs in 2005 and in 2004 the Cardinals
had another state championship.
Who We Compete With
The Cardinals Football & Spirit Program belongs to both the NH Pop Warner
and the Northeast Junior High Football League (NJHFL).
The NHYFSC offers spirit and football at multiple levels for ages 7
through 15 (age as of July 31st). Football teams are also classified
by weight limits. The levels fielded by the Cardinals in any given year
depend on registration. Every effort is made to accomodate every child who
wishes to participate.
Season and Practices
Practice begins August 1st. In August, teams practice 4 or 5 times per week
for a total of 10 hours plus break time. The regular season consists of up
to 8 games, one per week. Games are normally on Sundays. Once games begin,
practice is reduced to 3 per week for a total of 6 hours plus break time.
Football teams have the possibility of competing in state, regional, and
national playoffs.
Spirit teams cheer at all football games and compete in the state cheering
competition. They also have the possibility of competing in regional and
national competitions.
NJHFL League
The NJHFL consists of teams from northern Mass. and southern NH. The
league prepares middle school age players for high school football in a
varsity/junior varsity format. There is no weight limit. Players must be
in Grade 8 or lower and must be age 14 or less as of October 1st. Practice
requirements are similar to that described for the NHYFSC; practice begins
in mid-August.
Registrations
Registrations are conducted on a first-come, first-served basis in the
April/May time frame. Dates are advertised in the local newspapers.
League rules and policies are subject to change at any time. After
registration, the Cardinals will place teams according to the best
options for its members. Changes will be announced via the website as
they occur.
